I haven’t done a faith based post in a while, but I’m going to try and share one once a week (which was my original plan in the first place).
Let’s talk about junk food shall we? And I am not talking about the kind you stuff your face with! I’m talking about the “junk food” in your mind! What kind of “junk food” do you have floating around in that brain of yours?
As the Jews interpreted their dietary laws (as outlined in Leviticus 11), they believed they could be clean before God because of what they restricted from their diet. In Mark 7:18-19, Jesus pointed out that sin begins in our minds. Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17) and he also set a new path when he removed the cultural restrictions regarding food (Acts 10:9-29). While we should be aware and care about what we put into our bodies, we also need to be even more alert and aware of what we put into our minds as well.
What makes a person unclean is sin, not food! While food is important, Jesus is even more concerned about our state of mind rather than dietary laws. We all have “junk food” floating around in our minds from time to time, but we need to ask God to remove that junk and replace it with more wholesome thoughts.
Heavenly Father, we all have “junk food” thoughts from time to time, and we allow those thoughts to consume or bother us. I just pray that I can be more like you and less like the world. From now on I will choose to have those junk thoughts removed and replace them with more wholesome thoughts. In Jesus name, Amen.
